Presentation

Bordeaux Segalen University is one of 4 universities in Bordeaux (together with Bordeaux 1, Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux 3 and Montesquieu Bordeaux IV) and 5 in Aquitaine (with the University of Pau et les Pays de l’Adour), continuing a university tradition in the city that dates back 600 years..

It principal focus on medical, life, and human sciences makes Bordeaux Segalen the biology and health hub of the rapidly-developing Bordeaux University. In December 2010, Bordeaux Segalen, a founder member of the Bordeaux University PRES (Pôle Recherche et Enseignement Supérieur - Research and Higher Education Cluster), joined Bordeaux 1 and Bordeaux 4 universities, Sciences Po Bordeaux, and IPB (Institut Polytechnique de Bordeaux - Bordeaux Polytechnic Institute) in making the commitment to set up a single establishment.

The medium-term aim of this major project is to reinforce the international attractiveness of the Bordeaux campuses.

Bordeaux Segalen is the only university mainly located in the city centre: the Carreire campus adjoins the Pellegrin hospital complex (Bordeaux University Hospital) and the Victoire buildings, in the heart of Bordeaux, occupy the former faculty of medicine and pharmacy.

It also has premises on the Talence Pessac Gradignan campus(the main campus of the other 3 Bordeaux universities), as well as the Institute of viticulture and wine sciences (ISVV - lnstitut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin) and UFR of Oenology in Villenave d'Ornon and the Hydrotherapy institute (Institut du thermalism) in Dax. Finally, an annex of the UFR STAPS is located in Bayonne, housing the IUP Sport and Business Management units.
